Unloading service concepts for commercial fleets
Challenge
A mobility software and service provider asked Plan to discover commercial fleet and city needs around commercial vehicle loading, and develop and test value propositions to meet them. All in the context of increased congestion, partly due to rapidly climbing last-mile deliveries. The core challenge was to optimise the benefits for all parties: the city, fleets, goods recipients and our client.
Approach
We began by framing the opportunity space by distilling knowledge within our client organisation into a segmentation of four types of unloading stops that drivers make. We then developed two concepts to address all four stop types. System scenarios were then tested and refined with city transportation departments, fleet managers and drivers in the UK and USA.
We evolved the proposition to focus on a broader set of customers and different core benefits. We also recommended a development path – including a roadmap and test plan.
Impact
- Clarified, validated and refined the business opportunity hypothesis
- Widened the target market by focusing the proposition on operational efficiencies
